SALT LAKE CITY- Following the conclusion of BYU and Utah’s dramatic finish last Saturday night, news broke that Utah Quarterback Brandon Rose had suffered a season-ending injury during the course of the game.
The circumstances and exact nature of his injury were initially unknown, but Rose’s mom provided some more context on X as Brandon prepares for surgery.

The injury occurred earlier in the game than many initially thought. According to his mother, Rose tore his Lisfranc ligament in the second quarter, just before halftime. The Lisfranc ligament is in the midfoot and provides support, holding many of the bones in the midfoot together and stabilizing the arch.
At halftime, a steel-plated insole was put in his cleat to brace the torn ligament. The heavy-duty shoe paired with pain medication allowed Brandon to stay on the field and complete the game.
“The Dr couldn’t believe he was really even able to walk. This is extremely painful and your foot is totally unstable.” Rose’s mom said.
Brandon Rose will undergo surgery today and is expected to make a full recovery.
Brandon Rose provided Utah offense a spark
In his Monday press conference, before the injury had been confirmed by Utah, Kyle Whittingham praised the third-year sophomore.

“I thought he provided a spark and actually played pretty darn good,” Whittingham shared. “I thought that Brandon, for his first collegiate start and first opportunity, did a really nice job. He did some good things.”
He finished the game 12-of-21 for 112 yards, 2 touchdowns, and one interception— which Whittingham clarified was a miscommunication and not necessarily Rose’s fault.
