PROVO, Utah—BYU/Utah is a game that traditionally goes down to the wire. Football fans tend to like those kinds of games.
The 2024 meeting between BYU and Utah had all the theatrics you could want from a rivalry game. From intensity, sold-out crowd, controversy, and a last-second play for a victory. BYU/Utah had it all on Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

BYU/Utah TV Rating: 2.1 million viewers
ESPN announced that BYU’s 22-21 win over Utah delivered an audience of 2.1 million viewers.
It was the third-most-viewed late window game on ESPN’s network this season. Colorado-Kansas State (3.3 million) and Colorado-Cincinnati (2.3 million) were the only two late-night games that drew bigger audiences this season.
The 2.1 million viewers are a strong showing in the late-night spot, considering that two years ago, BYU played Baylor in front of 2.4 million viewers, and at the time, it was the highest-rated late-night game on an ESPN network in six years.
This is the highest-rated game BYU has been part of this season. Utah’s game at Oklahoma State in September remains the Utes’ most-watched game this season at 2.14 million viewers.
BYU/Utah was the sixth-highest-rated college football game during week 11. The highest-rated game of week 11 was Alabama vs. LSU, which drew 7.9 million viewers.
BYU has played in front of audiences with at least 1.24 million viewers in the previous four games. Arizona (1.31 mil), Oklahoma State (1.66 mil), UCF (1.24 mil), and Utah (2.1 mil).
Utah has an opportunity for a big television audience this Saturday against Colorado in a 10 a.m. (MST) television window played on network FOX.
The undefeated Cougars, who are now No. 6 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, will host 3-6 Kansas this Saturday night in another late-night television window at 8:15 p.m.
