Utah was led by Maye Toure’s 22 points, while Gianna Kneepkens added 15, Kennady McQueen 13, and Ines Vieira had 12.
The Utes started the first half rather strongly on both ends of the floor. They were shooting efficiently and did a fantastic job limiting Weber State to 17 first half points.
The second half was a bit of a grind at times. Utah It was also a bit sloppy and Utah finished the game with 18 turnovers. The defense slacked off a little bit, as Weber State scored 32 points on 46.8% shooting.
Utimately, the Utes cruised into victory tonight.
Utah’s Maye Toure Is A Great Fit
With a core featuring Gianna Kneepkens, Jenna Johnson, Kennady McQueen, and Ines Vieira, Maye Toure looks like the perfect complement at the five.
At 6-foot-3, she has the size and length to operate inside. Toure can work the post pretty effectively, considering the fit in Roberts’s four-out offense.
At times, she’ll pop out to the perimeter and Jenna Johnson will work the interior. Toure has shown the ability to knock down a three; she converted 2-of-4 today.
She can also keep the ball moving along the perimeter and even made a great pass to a cutting Kneepkens for an assist.
All in all, she finished with 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. It’s only two games, but Toure has not only shown a lot of promise and looks like an ideal fit on this team.
Ines Vieira Is An Absolute Menace
Vieira can absolutely get after it on the defensive end. She finished tonight with 3 steals and was tenaciously defending on-ball all night long.
She can also be a bit of a headache for opponents on the other end of the floor. She pushes the pace, weaves through traffic, and constantly looks to set up her teammates.
Vieira doesn’t look for her own offense very often but she makes those opportunities count. She’s either getting layups in transition or taking open looks.
She finished the game with 12 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, 2-of-2 from 3-point range, and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
