PROVO, Utah – BYU football improves to 4-0 this season after knocking off No. 13 Kansas State, 38-9.
The upset victory had social media buzzing. From the wild momentum swing at the end of the first half, Parker Kingston’s 90-yard punt return, to some Taco Bell burritos, the reactions were next level.
BYU was down 6-3, then at the end of the first half, the game turned. Linebacker Jack Kelly jarred the ball away from K-State QB Avery Johnson, causing a fumble.
True freshman safety Tommy Prassas scooped up the fumble and ran it in for the score.
Then Tyler Batty picked off Johnson to set up Jake Retzlaff on a quick score to Chase Roberts.
The win was BYU’s first victory over a Top 25 team since 2022 (Baylor).
BYU held Kansas State out of the endzone, ending K-State’s streak of scoring 28 points or more in 11 consecutive games.

This has to be the most complete performance a Kalani Sitake coached BYU team has had.
All phases.
Exceptional….
Special teams TD.
Defensive TD.
No turnovers and no costly penalties.
Simply put.

BYU blows out #13 K-State in Provo, 38-9!

Kick returns where the ball hits the turf unexpectedly before being recovered by the return man can create the potential for big plays as the punt coverage players abandon their lanes, chase the fumble, run past the returner, etc – the famous DeSean Jackson TD is a good example https://t.co/uaSNbzOHp3

Kalani Sitake might low-key be on the Whittingham or Ferentz track. (Ignore this mid-game thought in a year when things have gotten bleak.) This looked like a non-bowl year and they’re about to be ranked with a path to 8-9 wins

An all-time 6-minute stretch for BYU here.
Down 6-0 to up 31-6.
Never seen anything like it…maybe you old timers in the 1974 Notre Dame/USC game.

What a crazy, crazy, crazy turn of events at BYU.. Cougars have gone from down 6-0 to up 31-6 on No. 13 K-State with all sorts of wild plays, especially like that punt return that went from fumbled potential disaster to like 140 yards for a TD.
