SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Football faces a new challenge this week with the Baylor Bears coming to town for a Saturday showdown. Kyle Whittingham’s program will need a solid effort on both sides of the ball to take care of business against Dave Aranda’s squad.

The offense put on quite the show with Cam Rising, Brant Kuithe, and Dijon Stanley leading the way. With the additions that have been made to the roster, it’s clear that Utah has a greater focus on the passing game this season.
Wide receiver Mycah Pittman is expected to play a significant role in the offense this year. After a good offseason, Pittman suffered an injury in camp that limited his availability recently. However, he got some run on Thursday and is looking forward to more this season.
Getting back on the field, excited to work with Cam Rising
In his few snaps on Thursday night, Cam Rising took a deep shot his way that unfortunately was just inches too far out in front. Despite that missed opportunity, Pittman is confident in Rising and excited to work with him this season.
“I’m excited, I’m looking forward to it, I was kind of held out for a little bit, missed some time in practice, maybe that impacted the timing,” Pittman said of the throw from Rising. “We never miss those in practice, it happens in the game though. All I’m focused on is how could I have improved to make that play happen. Cam apologized and told me we’d get it next time, we just move on to the next play.”
Pittman has been hard at work this offseason as well. He’s dropped about 20 pounds, going from 214 lbs to 195 lbs, and that’s benefitted his game.
“Feeling good, my body feels good, just getting back to where I need to be,” Mycah Pittman said. ” I’m excited for the season, we’ve got a lot of stuff going on with the offense and looking forward to these games.”
Mycah Pittman’s new approach to leadership with Utah Football
He transferred to Utah last summer, largely due to the opportunity to play alongside his childhood friend, Cam Rising. Unfortunately, last season didn’t go as planned for him, or Utah really, as he missed all but two games due to injury.
The silver lining though, Pittman was granted a medical redshirt which gave him another season of eligibility. That also gave him another year in the program. With that time here, he’s settled in and become more comfortable with where he’s at.
“My mindset is a lot different than last year,” Pittman shared. “I’m just enjoying where I’m at, being where my feet are, and enjoying my last year. I just want to play to the best of my abilities, enjoy my time with the guys, and be more of a helping hand than maybe I did last year.”
There are a lot of young guys on the team. There are a lot of people that are integral parts of the program’s success. Pittman has made it a focus this season to be more mindful of everyone.
“No one is too cool for this football team, that’s something I’ve embraced,” he shared. “I’m making it a point to say hi to everybody and acknowledge everybody. I want everyone to know Mycah Pittman and enjoy being around me. Every single person here plays a key role in our ability to win, I don’t want to get in the way of that.”

Mycah Pittman embraces the expectations of Utah Football
On the football field, Pittman has played a lot of ball and done so for competitive programs. There is a high standard for success at Utah and he hopes to lead the team to achieving their goals again this season.
“The thing we say is Big 12 Champions, coaches make sure we take it week by week, but coach Whittingham is an aggressive coach, he makes sure to put that in our face every day,” he shared. “We know the expectation here is to win football games, that’s what we’re here to do. There is no other standard for us and I want to be out in front leading us to that every day.”
