SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Football just landed their second commit of the week as Mansfield Timberview three-star safety Nathan Tilmon just announced his commitment to the University of Utah.
The promising safety picked the Utes over his other two finalists TCU and Texas and gives Morgan Scalley yet another defensive back recruiting win out of the state of Texas.

Again, Tilmon is the second commit the Utes have picked up this week. Four-star offensive tackle Aaron Dunn also gave his pledge to Whittingham’s program on Thursday.
Utah’s class has grown to 18 pledges by the second weekend of August. That means Utah has secured the bulk of their class with the season kicking off in just a couple of weeks.
Utah Football Edges Out Texas, TCU
Tilmon’s addition to the 2025 recruiting class is a significant recruiting victory. Texas and TCU were the other finalists but the Utes plucked Tilmon out of the Lone Star State despite serious interest from a few other in-state programs.
He was committed to SMU for a few months before he took official visits to SMU, Utah, Texas, and TCU. Following those trips, he decided to back off that early commitment to the Mustangs.
Following that decision, Baylor tried to re-enter his recruitment and made a late push as well. However, Tilmon’s focus remained centered on the Utes, as well as the Longhorns and Horned Frogs. It was a heated battle between TCU and Utah down the stretch before he decided this week to pledge to the Utes.
Scouting Report On Nathan Tilmon
Tilmon has a good projection to the safety position where he seems plenty capable of playing both safety positions at Utah. Over the past two seasons at Mansfield Timberview, Tilmon recorded a total of 78 tackles, 3 for loss, 1 interception, 2 fumble recoveries, and 8 pass breakups.
What stands out most about the 6-foot, 180-pound safety is the physicality he plays with. He is violent and more than willing to mix it up physically. He’s not reckless but is a very consistent tackler as well.
Tilmon looks good in coverage, as he shows the ability to play tight in man coverage as well as the diagnostic skills and range in zone coverage.
He has the requisite athleticism to make the transition to a college-level defense. He owns personal bests of 10.71 seconds in the 100-meter and 22.49 seconds in the 200-meter.
Tilmon is currently rated a three-star prospect by each entity in the industry. He holds an 89 rating from On3 and an 86 rating from 247Sports, the two of which share similar rating models. According to the 247Sports Composite Rating, Tilmon holds a three-star .8675 rating and ranks as the No. 79 safety in the class. Â
