SALT LAKE CITY – Three-star Texas safety Nathan Tilmon will be announcing his commitment later today. He is a rising safety prospect and has been a priority for Utah Football this cycle. Here is all you need to know ahead of his announcement ceremony.
Nathan Tilmon’s Recruitment
Tilmon’s recruitment got off the ground with his first few offers last summer. After a solid junior season at Mansfield Timberview, Tilmon’s recruitment gained momentum but shortly after surpassing double-digit scholarship offers, Tilmon elected to commit to nearby SMU in February.
However, the offers did not stop coming and neither did the recruitment from other programs. Tilmon’s recruitment started to peak as he approached the summer months.
- When: Saturday, 1:00 pm MT
- Finalists: Texas, TCU, and Utah
- Utah Official Visit Date: June 7
- Other Official Visits: SMU May 17, Texas June 18, TCU June 25
- Rankings and Ratings: 247Sports and On3 share similar rating models, Tilmon holds an 86 three-star rating according to 247Sports, while On3 has given him a three-star 89 rating. According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, Tilmon holds a .8675 three-star Composite rating and ranks as the No. 79 safety in the 2025 class.
After officially visiting SMU, Utah, Texas, and TCU between May and June, Tilmon elected to back off his commitment to the Mustangs. Following that decision, Baylor tried to re-enter the picture in his recruitment but Tilmon’s focus remained centered on the Utes, Longhorns, and Horned Frogs.
After a back-and-forth battle between Texas and Utah in the month of July, the Utes emerged as the favorite. TCU then made a significant push to try and sway him to stay home but the Utes also seem to have held off that charge. That has left Utah in a favorable position as we approach his commitment ceremony.

Nathan Tilmon Scouting Report
The 6-foot, 180-pound safety has the requisite size and athletic qualities to play the safety position at the next level. Tilmon is a dual-sport athlete who also participates in track. He owns a personal best of 10.71 seconds in the 100-meter, which highlights his athleticism.
On the field, Tilmon has been productive. He’s played in 17 games and has tallied 53 total tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, 1 interception, and 2 fumble recoveries. What stands out most about Tilmon on the field is the physicality with which he plays. He is more than willing to be violent and throw his body around while also being a pretty sure tackler. He shows the ability to play tight in man coverage as well as the diagnostic skills and range in zone coverage.
Tilmon projects to the safety position where he seems capable of playing both strong and free safety at Utah. He will need to continue to physically develop but Tilmon has a good skillset with plenty of room to improve over time.
