PROVO, Utah – There has been rampant speculation on the status of BYU football running back LJ Martin.
The rising sophomore has not been seen during team portions of practice in media observation windows on Wednesday and Friday’s practice. There were reports this week that Martin would miss game action to open the season.

On Friday, Martin addressed the media in a scrum of reporters.
The first questions were to clear the air on his participation level in fall camp practices.
“I’m participating in everything. I’ve been out here with the guys, just out here competing,” said Martin. “So it’s been real fun, just being out here for the first couple days of camp.”

BYU Athletics provided B-Roll footage of some of the earlier segments of the football team’s Friday practice. Martin was in the clips taking a handoff from quarterback Gerry Bohanon and also going through drills punching bags in practice.
When asked about his health level at the moment. Martin replied, “I’ll be good. I’m good right now. I’ll be good.”
To close up his press availability, Martin was asked if the expectation is that he will play in week one against Southern Illinois in four weeks. Martin said, “Yeah.”
BYU football kicks off the season on August 31 in Provo.
Last season, Martin rushed for 518 yards on 109 carries and four touchdowns in his freshman season.
