SALT LAKE CITY –With the Utah Hockey Club’s inaugural season right around the corner, it’s time for fans to begin familiarizing themselves with the roster to better understand who will be putting on the Utah sweater and what to expect from Clayton Keller when the puck officially drops in Salt Lake City in October.
Beginning with the only current NHL All-Star, right wing Clayton Keller is the first player profile to help fans get to know the Utah Hockey Club roster.
Utah’s Clayton Keller
Keller is a 26-year-old right wing from Chesterfield, MO. During his youth, Keller attended Shattuck St. Mary’s, a prestigious prep school that has won 36 USA Hockey National Championships and produced 115 NHL Draft picks.
Drafted No. 7 overall in 2016 by the Arizona Coyotes after a season with Boston University, Keller has played his entire NHL career with the franchise.
In his eight seasons with the Coyotes, Keller has been an impressive and productive player since day one. During his time, he’s averaged 20 goals and 31 assists per season. However, over the last three campaigns, he has significantly improved his production to an average of 32 goals and 42 assists.

NHL All-Star
Keller is very clearly the face of this franchise as he’s become the primary goal scorer and offensive creator for the team. He poses as a constant threat anytime he enters the offensive zone with his craftiness, excellent puck handling skills and the ability to score from anywhere. Whether it’s driving to the net, taking a one-timer from the slot, cleaning up rebounds in the crease, or sniping the goaltender from a distance, Keller is always dangerous.
Additionally, as demonstrated by his team-high 43 assists last season, he is a team-minded player who can find others in crafty ways and help create space for them when he draws multiple defenders with his speed.
“I’m a highly competitive guy,” Keller shared on the Utah Puck Report Podcast. “I’m always striving to get better. As I’ve gotten older and played longer in the league, I’ve turned into more of a leader, and I think I’ve done a great job with that.”
For his efforts, Keller was named an NHL All-Star last season and is poised to continue leading the franchise into this new era of Utah Hockey.
