SALT LAKE CITY – Mike Trout‘s rehab debut with the Salt Lake Bees didn’t go as planned after the slugger exited following two innings and one at-bat against the El Pasa Chihuahuas. Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington gave hope that it may indeed have been precautionary and that Trout could possibly serve as the Bees’ designated hitter on Wednesday night.
The Bees host the El Paso Chihuahuas at Smith’s Ballpark on Wednesday, July 24. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. MT.

He told the media earlier in the afternoon that his body felt good and he was ready to play.

Why Is Mike Trout In Triple-A Salt Lake?
Injuries have become an all too common occurrence for the perennial All-Star. When healthy, Trout is one of the most feared hitters in baseball. The problem is that he has missed 249 of a possible 486 games in the past three years. A hot start to 2024 was derailed 29 games in when the three-time MVP underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

The nine-time Silver Slugger Award winner, given out to the best offensive players at each position in each league, was off to another MVP-type season before the injury. He had a league-high ten home runs and had driven in 14 runs for the offense-starved Angels.
Trout was named American League MVP in 2014, 2016, and 2019. He finished second in MVP voting four times.
