Team U.S.A. Rugby Sevens Flattened By Fiji

PARIS, France – Two-time gold medal-winning Fiji ran over, around, and through the Team U.S.A defense in a 38-12 loss in their second match of the 2024 Paris Olympics

Utah Warrior and Provo native Maka Unufe made an appearance in the second half.

First Half

The underdog U.S. team found the try zone first when Orrin Bizer found freedom down the sideline in the first minute. The Eagles led 5-0 after a missed conversion.

Fiji needed only moments to respond with a long try of their own. The conversion gave Fiji a two-point advantage. The Fijians added a second try and conversion seconds later to take a 14-5 lead.

The onslaught continued moments later when Fiji split the defense for their third try in as many minutes. Fiji added its fourth try of the half as the clock dwindled. Another try in extra time gave Fiji a 33-5 halftime lead.

Second Half

Fiji’s attack slowed in the second half but couldn’t be stopped as they added a sixth unanswered try.

Perry Baker ended the scoring drought when he broke free for a long try, making it 38-12 with two minutes left.
