Utah QB Bryson Barnes Named To Davey O’Brien Great 8, Midseason Watchlist

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Utes quarterback Bryson Barnes earned a spot on the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 and midseason watchlist following his performance in Week 8 of the college football season.
The Davey O’Brien Great 8 for Week 8 was revealed on Monday, October 23.

Barnes was one of eight quarterbacks recognized for their play during the latest week of college football games.
The following quarterbacks landed on the Great 8 list:
- Bryson Barnes (Utah)
- JT Daniels (Rice)
- J.J. McCarthy (Michigan)
- Kyle McCord (Ohio State)
- Bo Nix (Oregon)
- Michael Pratt (Tulane)
- Preston Stone (SMU)
- Jordan Travis (Florida State)
Barnes also landed on the award’s midseason watch list with the Week 8 honor.

About Bryson Barnes
During Utah’s 34-32 win over the USC Trojans, Barnes was 14/23 passing for 235 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He also ran the ball 10 times for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Barnes led the Utes to a game-winning field goal drive in the final minute of the game.

This season, Barnes has thrown for 633 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions with a 58.4 percent completion rate. He’s also run for 124 yards and three touchdowns with a 3.8 yards per carry average.
With the win over USC, the Utes improved to a 6-1 record.
Utah’s next game is against Nix and the No. 8 Oregon Ducks on Saturday, October 28. The game will start at 1:30 p.m. (MDT) and will be televised on FOX.
Oregon vs. Utah
The Ducks started the season with a 5-0 record and victories over Portland State, Texas Tech, Hawai’i, No. 19 Colorado, and Stanford. Oregon suffered a loss at No. 7 Washington in Week 7. The Ducks will arrive in Utah coming off a win over Washington State.
After opening the season with a 4-0 record and wins over Florida, Baylor, Weber State, and No. 22 UCLA, the Utes suffered their lone loss of the season on the road against No. 19 Oregon State. Utah responded with back-to-back wins over California and No. 18 USC.
