Real Salt Lake Prepares For Second Consecutive Home Game Against St. Louis City

SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake takes on St. Louis City SC at America First Field for the second consecutive home game on Saturday, March 25.

The game will be broadcasted on Apple TV and various KSL radio signals.

RSL has gone 1-2 in the first three games of the season.

In the first game of the season, Real Salt Lake secured a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps. In the second game against MLS power Seattle Sounders, RSL went down but couldn’t claw back like the game prior. The Sounders had 12 more shots, and 6 more shots on target, en route to a 2-0 win.

In the recent home opener, Real Salt Lake played a solid game but ultimately fell 2-1 to Austin FC. RSL led in multiple statistical categories but couldn’t score more than one goal.

Real Salt Lake Faces Off Against Undefeated St. Louis

The newest expansion team in the MLS has yet to lose a game. St. Louis City has started its inaugural season with 4 straight wins over Austin, Charlotte, Portland, and San Jose.

They are the first expansion team in MLS history to start out 4-0.

St. Louis’ run to start the season has been impressive, to say the least. They have scored 3 goals in three of their four games. This includes a 3-0 blowout against San Jose on Saturday, March 18.

RSL has three total goals through three games. To pull out a win, they will need to hone in on their defense.

Despite the loss, there are positives that can be taken from the home opener against Austin. The team created a lot of offensive opportunities but struggled to cap them off with a score.

RSL finished with 17 shots (6 on goal), 8 corner kicks, three saves, and 5 fouls.

Real Salt Lake Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni said that the team’s focus is on defense heading into the match against St. Louis.

“I think we have to get better at defending as a collective,” Mastroeni said. “Every team in this league has the ability to score goals. The key for us is to be stingier defensively.”

San Jose and Austin FC currently sit above RSL in the standings. A win over St. Louis could prove to be important for postseason standings.
