SALT LAKE CITY – Former Bingham Miner football standout Dalton Schultz will reportedly be playing for the Houston Texans in 2023 after spending the past five season with the Dallas Cowboys.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero first reported the signing on Monday, March 20.

A five-year veteran, Shultz saw his role with the Dallas Cowboys expand as he developed a rapport with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. After making 13 catches in seven starts in his first two seasons with Dallas, Schultz exploded in 2020.

In the past three seasons combined, Schultz has started 44 of a possible 50 games while catching 198 passes for 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Schultz had his best season statistically in 2021. The former Stanford Cardinal caught 78 balls for 808 yards and eight touchdowns. He was named by the NFL Network as the league’s fourth-best tight end in October of 2021. His play led to Dallas offering him the franchise tag in free agency following the season.

In 2022, Schultz’s numbers took a step back. Despite being targeted 89 times, he caught only 57 passes for 577 yards and five touchdowns. In two playoff games, Schultz reeled in 12 catches for 122 yards and three scores as Dallas advanced to the NFC Divisional Round before losing to the San Francisco 49ers.

About Dalton Schultz

Following his high school career at Bingham, Schultz played for the Stanford Cardinal.

After his time at Stanford, the Cowboys selected Schultz during the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Schultz saw little playing time during his first two seasons in the league. In 2020, he caught the first touchdown of his NFL career and finished the year with four scores.

Last season, Schultz had a breakout year for Dallas. He helped the Cowboys reach the playoffs and ended the year with 78 catches for 808 yards and eight touchdowns.

Before the Divisional Round, Schultz had recorded 211 receptions for 2,122 yards and 17 touchdowns during his five regular seasons in the league, all with the Cowboys.
