Chicago Bears, Specialist Patrick Scales Agree To New Contract

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah State standout and current Chicago Bears long snapper Patrick Scales agreed to a new contract with the Windy City NFL franchise.
The deal was first reported by The Athletic’s Kevin Fishbain on Friday, March 10. Later that day, Scales’ agent Kevin Gold confirmed that the veteran would return to Chicago for another season.
The league’s legal free agent negotiating period opened on Monday, March 13. NFL free agency officially begins on Wednesday, March 15.
“The Bears agreed to terms with long snapper Patrick Scales, per source,” Fishbain tweeted. “The longest-tenured Bear is back.”

Scales was slated to become an unrestricted free agent. Like in 2022, the former Utah State standout agreed to a new deal to remain with the Bears.

Last season, Scales played in all 17 of Chicago’s regular season contests. He recorded four total tackles and one solo tackle on special teams. Chicago finished the season with the worst record in the league at 3-14.

As the team with the worst record, the Bears owned the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft before trading it to the Carolina Panthers earlier in March.
About Patrick Scales
Prior to his NFL career, Scales played at Utah State from 2006-10.
The North Ogden, Utah native joined the NFL in 2011 when he signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent.
Before joining the Bears in 2015, Scales spent time with the Ravens, Miami Dolphins, New York Jets, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
During his seven seasons in Chicago, Scales has played in 105 games.
