Utah State Basketball Trio Receives Recognition From Mountain West Media
LOGAN, Utah – Three Utah State players have earned accolades from the Mountain West media following the Aggies third-place regular season finish. Junior point guard Steven Ashworth, along with graduate forwards Taylor Funk and Dan Akin were honored.
The awards, voted on by media that cover the 11 member schools, were announced on the morning of Monday, March 6.

Ashworth earned second-team all-MW. He was one of four players to receive Player of the Year votes, finishing second in the poll. The eighth-leading scorer in the Mountain West at 16.3 points per game, he led the league in free throw percentage (.889), three-point percentage (.450), and threes made per game (3.2). Ashworth was named MW Player of the Week on Sunday, March 5.

Akin was named Sixth Man of the Year and an all-MW honorable mention selection. A graduate forward out of London, England, Akin (12.1 ppg) led an Aggie bench unit that has averaged 24.8 points per game this season. He was the league’s fifth-leading rebounder at 6.8 boards per contest. In Mountain West games, Akin averaged 11.7 points off the bench in league play, shooting a team-best 66.4 percent (71-of-107) from the floor.

Funk was voted honorable mention all-Mountain West. In his first and only season in Logan after transferring from St. Josephs, was the Aggies second-leading scorer (13.2) and second-leading rebounder (5.4). He made 71 threes, connecting at a 38 percent clip.
The official all-conference awards voted on by Mountain West coaches are set to be released on Tuesday, March 7.

Utah State heads to Las Vegas, Nevada for the 2023 Mountain West Championships. The tournament will take place at the Thomas & Mack Center beginning Wednesday, March 8.
The Aggies will play the winner of sixth-seeded New Mexico and 11th-seeded Wyoming on Thursday, March 9, at 9:30 p.m. (MT).
The Mountain West title game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m. (MT) on Saturday, March 11.
