Weber State Wildcats Drop Close Game To Eastern Washington

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State Wildcats took on the Eastern Washington Eagles at home in the Dee Events Center on Thursday.

The Wildcats last game was an 8-point win over the Portland State Vikings. The Eagles last game was a 12-point home victory over the Northern Colorado Bears.

Eastern Washington came into the match on a 17-game win streak and held the 1st seed in the Big Sky Conference.

First Half

Dillon Jones opened up the scoring for the Wildcats with a wing three-pointer.

Steven Verplancken Jr. hit a three of his own a few minutes later to give WSU an 11-5 lead.

The beginning of the first half was intense. The teams traded baskets and defensive stops.

Halfway through the first half, Weber State led, 22-18.

The Wildcats were able to hold a one-possession lead for much of the half.

Eastern Washington tied the game at 35 with a catch-and-shoot three. The three-point shots were falling for both teams.

Weber State led at the half, 43-41.

Second Half

The Eagles took their first lead since 3-0 in the opening of the second half.

They built on this momentum and built an 8-point lead over the first five minutes.

The Wildcats went cold which almost resulted in a double-digit lead for the Eagles.

With ten minutes left in regulation, Eastern Washington led 64-56.

Dyson Koehler and Dillon Jones carried the scoring load for WSU. They combined for 31 points in the first 30 minutes.

No matter what the Wildcats did, Eastern Washington answered to keep their multi-possession lead.

EWU opened up a double-digit lead with three minutes remaining.

Weber State couldn’t find their way back into the game and lose at home, 89-82.
