Clarkson, Sexton Celebrate All-Star Weekend With Local Youth
SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz players Jordan Clarkson, Collin Sexton, and Micah Potter were popular faces at Jr. NBA to kick off the NBA All-Star weekend.
The three Jazzmen, assistant coach Jason Terry, former Ute and New York Knicks assistant Johnnie Bryant, former All-Star Joakim Noah, and WNBA stars Isabelle Harrison and Arike Ogunbowale put youth from local elementary schools through basketball drills, and talked about leadership on and off the basketball court.

“It’s trying to teach them how to have fun playing basketball that’s the biggest thing,” Potter said. “Basketball is a game — it’s my job personally — but it’s also a game and you’ve got to enjoy playing and also trying to spread awareness on how to have fun playing the game.”

More than 1,000 students earned invites to the Jr. NBA event by submitting essays on what leadership means in the classroom.
“This opportunity allowed the students to express their thoughts about leadership,” Braden Pelly, a third grade teacher at Morningside Elementary said. “The event provided the students an opportunity to work with athletes who are leaders on their own teams and to encourage the students to continue being leaders throughout their schools.”
Jr. NBA day was held at the Salt Palace Convention Center where the league was also hosting the NBA Crossover event.
“To bring the community of Salt Lake City, Utah together to celebrate All-Star weekend, it’s just awesome,” Terry said.
