Key Dates To Know For BYU Football’s Spring Practices

PROVO, Utahย – If you’re feeling down about the football season being over, don’t get too down because BYU football spring ball is just around the corner.
This spring will be an important one for BYU for various reasons. The biggest reason, BYU is preparing for its first season in the Big 12 Conference.
BYU will officially become a member of the Big 12 on July 1, 2023. They open the 2023 season on September 2 at home against Sam Houston from Conference USA. Then the first Big 12 game is three weeks later in Lawrence, Kansas, against the Kansas Jayhawks.
Another notable aspect of spring ball is that it will be the first official practices with new defensive coordinator Jay Hill. Hill hired a defensive staff that includes Kelly Poppinga, Sione Po’uha, and Justin Enaย and retained Jernaro Gilford.
But it all starts with spring football in March.

2023 BYU football spring ball information
First day of practice: Monday, March 6, 2023
BYU pushed the start of spring practice by a week. The delay was due to the winter semester starting later than usual this year. BYU typically opens up spring practice inside the Indoor Practice Facility depending on the weather conditions.

Coaches Clinic: March 23rd
Former Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo will be the keynote speaker for high school coaches looking to learn from BYU coaches and Navy’s all-time winningest coach.

NFL Pro Day: March 24th
BYU will hold its annual NFL Pro Day on Friday, March 24. This year’s Pro Day should have a solid gathering of NFL personnel as quarterback Jaren Hall, wide receiver Puka Nacua, and offensive lineman Blake Freeland are intriguing NFL draft prospects.
Former BYU running back Chris Brooks is also expected to compete through drills along with other former BYU players.
Spring Game: March 31st
For the first time since 2019, BYU will hold a spring game that fans can attend. The spring contest will also be televised on BYUtv. It’s the first time BYU has televised a spring game since 2017. Kickoff for the spring game will be at 3 p.m. at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

Alumni Game: March 31st
Following the spring game, BYU’s alumni will square off again for the second edition of the Alumni Game. Last year’s contest produced a memorable finish, with Max Hall’s team defeating Team Feterik on a hail mary on the game’s final play.

BYU football will wrap up spring practices on Saturday, April 15th. Two weeks later, the Transfer Portal’s spring window opens on May 1.
