Utah Valley Blows Out California Baptist At Home

OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley Wolverines took on the California Baptist Lancers at home in the UCCU Center on Wednesday.

The Wolverines last game was a 7-point victory over same-state foe Utah Tech, 76-69. The Lancers last game was a blowout loss to the Abilene Christian Wildcats, 87-71.

Ahead of the matchup, Utah Valley sat atop the Western Athletic Conference. Cal Baptist held the ninth spot.

First Half

Trey Woodbury opened up scoring for the Wolverines with a mid-range jumpshot.

UVU got two highlight dunks in the following possessions. The first was an impressive half-court alley-oop that Tim Fuller finished.

The next was a fastbreak tomahawk slam by Justin Harmon.

It was a dunk party early on in the UCCU center. Tim Fuller got his second dunk of the night to extend the lead to 7.

The Wolverines smothered the Lancers in the first ten minutes, forcing 7 missed shots (2/9) and 7 turnovers. In that same stretch, UVU shot 57% and only had 1 turnover.

After taking a timeout, the Lancers answered with a 9-2 run.

UVU made jumpshots on their next three-straight possessions to regain a double-digit lead.

The Wolverines got another alley-oop dunk in the final minute of the first half.\

Utah Valley led at halftime, 34-23.

Second Half

Aziz Bandaogo came out of the break strong, scoring 6 quick points for the Wolverines.

Both teams traded baskets early in the half. UVU maintained a double-digit lead.

With ten minutes left in the game, Utah Valley took their biggest lead of the game at 17.

They quickly turned that into a 20-point lead, 57-37.

Bandaogo got a nasty block on CBU’s Scotty Washington.

The Lancers went on a small run over the next couple minutes, closing the lead down to 14.

The Wolverines opened their 20-point lead right back up with an alley-oop to Bandaogo.

Utah Valley held their lead for the remainder of the game and won at home, 71-55.
