Colts DB Julian Blackmon Scoops Up First Career Fumble Recovery In Week 18

SALT LAKE CITY – Former Utah Utes and current Indianapolis Colts safety Julian Blackmon scooped up a loose ball against the Houston Texans for his first career fumble recovery.
The Colts hosted the Texans at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday, January 8.

With 10:41 remaining in the first half, Houston’s Royce Freeman ran the ball seven yards to the Colts’ 14-yard line before Indianapolis’ E.J. Speed punched the ball free. Blackmon scooped up the fumble and returned the ball 34 yards to the Indianapolis 42-yard line.
It was the former Utah standout’s first fumble recovery as an NFL player.

At the time of Blackmon’s recovery, the Colts trailed the Texans, 10-7. Unfortunately for Blackmon and Indianapolis, the Colts gave the ball back to the Texans on the following play as Sam Ehlinger tossed a pick-six to give Houston a 17-7 lead.
Late in the first half, Blackmon had four total tackles, three solo tackles, and a tackle for loss.
This season, the safety has recorded 42 total tackles, 30 solo tackles, one sack, two pass breakups, and one interception.

The Colts entered the regular season finale with a 4-11-1 record this season.

About Julian Blackmon
Before his NFL career, Blackmon was a standout player at Layton High School. After his prep career with the Lancers, the safety played college football at the University of Utah from 2016-19.
During his time with the Utes, Blackmon recorded 60 total tackles, 41 solo tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four interceptions, and four pass breakups in 48 games played.
Following his Utah career, Blackmon was selected by the Colts with the No. 85 overall pick during the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
Prior to Week 18, Blackmon had 118 total tackles, 92 solo tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, three interceptions, and nine pass breakups in 34 games.
