Utah Valley’s Winning Streak Hits 10 Games With Victory Over UT Rio Grande Valley

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Valley men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to double-digit games with a victory over the UT Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros.
The Vaqueros hosted the Wolverines at UTRGV Fieldhouse in Edinburg, Texas on Saturday, January 7.
UVU beat UT Rio Grande Valley, 75-61.
The Wolverines haven’t lost a game since falling on the road to Boise State on November 26.

Utah Valley went wire-to-wire in the win. In addition to never trailing to the Vaqueros, the Wolverines built their lead to 14 points by the end of the contest.
24 seconds into the game, Aziz Bandaogo buried a jump shot to give Utah Valley a 2-0 lead and the Wolverines never looked back. By halftime, UVU had built its advantage to a five-point lead, 35-31. After coming out of the locker room for the second half, the Wolverines won the final 20 minutes of game time by nine points, 39-30.

The Wolverines finished the contest shooting 46.4 percent from the floor, including 30.0 percent from downtown. The Vaqueros shot 31.8 percent overall and 29.2 percent from distance.
Three Wolverines reached double figures in scoring. Le’Tre Darthard led Utah Valley with 19 points on 6-9 shooting, including 4-7 from beyond the arc. Darthard added three rebounds during his 32 minutes on the hardwood.

Bandaogo poured in 18 points on 7-9 field goals. The center posted a double-double with 16 rebounds. He added one steal and six blocks in 35 minutes.

Justin Harmon added 14 points, five rebounds, 10 assists, and two steals.
Tahj Small led UVU’s second unit with six points.
UT Rio Grande Valley was led by Sherman Brashear’s 13 points.
With the win, the Wolverines improved their record to 13-4 this season, including 4-0 in Western Athletic Conference action.

Utah Valley’s next game is on the road against California Baptist on Wednesday, January 11 at 8 p.m. (MDT). The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
