PROVO, Utah – BYU women’s basketball star Lauren Gustin put together a memorable performance in a win over San Diego.
During BYU’s 63-49 victory Saturday at the Marriott Center, Gustin scored 21 points and pulled down a career-high 24 rebounds. Gustin’s 24 rebounds were more than the entire San Diego team, who finished with 23 rebounds in the loss.

“I expect greatness out of her,” BYU head coach Amber Whiting said. “Lauren is getting really good at feeling where the defense is to either catch and go up or step through. At halftime, we had a conversation about finishing and she was able to come away with 21 points.”
The 24 rebounds from Gustin is also a Marriott Center record from a women’s basketball player.
Lauren Gustin is near the top in rebounds per game nationally
Gustin is averaging 15.4 rebounds per game this season, good for second nationally behind only LSU’s Angel Reese. The 6-foot-1 senior has put together two 20-20 performances this season and three all-time in her BYU career.
Thanks to the play of Gustin, BYU has reeled off four consecutive victories and is back at .500 with an 8-8 record.
Through 16 games, Gustin has recorded 15 double-doubles, tied with LSU’s Reese for the most in the nation. The lone game where Gustin didn’t have a double-double was on December 19 at Portland, BYU’s last loss. She finished with seven points and 12 rebounds.
In all 16 games, Gustin has recorded at least 10 rebounds.
Gustin and the BYU women’s basketball team returns to action next week as they go on the road to take on Loyola Marymount next Thursday.
