Buffalo Bills Offer Update On 24-Year Old Damar Hamlin After Scary Injury

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Bills announced that Damar Hamlin remains in the intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in critical condition.
The Bills made the announcement via social media on Tuesday, January 3.
Damar Hamlin spent last night in the intensive care unit and remains there today in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

“Damar Hamlin spent last night in the intensive care unit and remains there today in critical condition at the University Cincinnati Medical Center,” the Bills tweeted. “We are grateful and thankful for the outpouring of support we have received thus far.”
The second-year safety was injured during the first quarter of Monday night’s Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals game after tackling Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin briefly stood up after the hit before appearing to lose consciousness on the field and falling backwards.

Hamlin was tended to for several minutes on the field before being taken to UCMC via ambulance. It was reported that Hamlin received both CPR and AED treatment while on the field.
Following a postponement of last night’s game, the Bills provided an update on Hamlin’s status.
Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.

NFL Updates Bills Vs. Bengals
Following the injury, after speaking with officials for both teams, the NFL decided to suspend play.

Though both teams are in playoff contention, the NFL announced on Tuesday that a decision regarding the resumption of the game has not been made.

“After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadershi, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs today that the Bills-Bengals game will not be resumed this week,” the league said on social media.
“The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date. We will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available.”

About Damar Hamlin
The 24-year-old Hamlin played five season for his hometown Pitt, — appearing in 48 games for the Panthers over that span. He was a second-team All-ACC performer as a senior, was voted a team captain and was selected to play in the Senior Bowl.
Drafted in the sixth round by the Bills in 2021, Hamlin played in 14 games as a rookie and then became a starter this year after Micah Hyde was lost for the season to injury.
Entering the game, the 6-foot, 200-pound Hamlin had 91 tackles, including 63 solo tackles, and 1 1/2 sacks.
