USC Quarterback Caleb Williams Wins 2022 Heisman Trophy

SALT LAKE CITY – USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams won the Heisman Trophy for his play during the 2022 college football season.
The Heisman Trophy Trust honored Williams in New York City on Saturday, December 10.
The Heisman Trophy is given annually to the top player in college football.

Williams is the eighth USC player to win the Heisman Trophy. The Trojans’ most recent Heisman winners before Williams were Reggie Bush (2005-vacated), Matt Leinart (2004), and Carson Palmer (2002).

It’s the 11th time that a quarterback has won the award since 2010. Last season’s Heisman, Bryce Young of Alabama, finished sixth in voting for 2022’s honor.

Williams is the only finalist whose team didn’t make the College Football Playoff.
Stroud has been a finalist each of the past two seasons. Stroud and the Buckeyes are ranked No. 4 and will play Bennett’s Bulldogs in the playoff.
Bennett led the Bulldogs to a national title last season and helped Georgia to an SEC Championship and its current No. 1 ranking this year.
Duggan led the Horned Frogs to the Big 12 Championship Game, a No. 3 ranking, and a spot in the playoff against No. 2 Michigan.

After playing his freshman season at Oklahoma, Williams followed his head coach Lincoln Riley to Southern California.

As a freshman in 2021, Williams threw for 1,912 yards, 21 touchdowns, and four interceptions with a completion rate of 64.5 percent. He added 442 yards and six touchdowns with his legs.
The Washington D.C. native followed that up with an offensive explosion in his first year with the Trojans. This season, Williams threw for 4,075 yards, 37 touchdowns, and four interceptions with a completion percentage of 66.1. The sophomore also ran the ball 109 times for 372 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Williams led USC to an 11-2 record and a spot in the Pac-12 Conference title game. The Trojans are currently ranked No. 10 in the country and will play the No. 16 Tulane Green Wave in the Cotton Bowl on January 2, 2022. Kickoff for the contest is slated for 11 a.m. (MDT). The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
