SALT LAKE CITY – Joe Ingles appears to be closing in on making his Milwaukee Bucks debut.
The former Utah Jazz guard was assigned to the Bucks G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd on Thursday, a sign that his return to the NBA floor is growing nearer.
Ingles last suited up for the Jazz on January 30 when he tore his ACL in a road game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Shortly after tearing the ligament in his knee, the Jazz traded Ingles to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Juancho Hernangomez.
Ingles never played for the Trail Blazers, and instead signed with the Bucks as an unrestricted free agent this past summer.
The Herd announced the Ingles assignment, along with Thanasis Antetokounmpo, and rookie MarJon Beauchamp.

The move doesn’t mean that Ingles debut with the Bucks is imminent, however.
The team also assigned, recalled, and reassigned forward Khris Middleton to the Herd several times before he made his season debut on December 2.
Ingles has also been seen working out with the Bucks coaching staff before games, a positive sign for his progression back to the court.

Earlier this year Bucks GM Jon Horst announced the team was hoping Ingles will be able to return to the court in January.
Ingles Career Prior To Joining Bucks
Ingles joined the Jazz in 2014 after being waived by the Los Angeles Clippers shortly before the regular season began.
The then 27-year-old had had a long productive career playing in Australia and Europe before testing the NBA waters and finding a home in Utah.

Despite barely catching on with an NBA team as a rookie, Ingles went on to play 590 games for the Jazz, including 313 starts.
During his time in Utah, the Australian guard averaged 8.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 0.2 blocks, and 0.9 steals in 25.7 minutes per game.
Ingles is the Jazz franchise leader with 1,071 made threes.
