SALT LAKE CITY- The good times keep rolling for Utah who picked up a major commitment from one of the top in-state recruits in Spencer Fano. The talented offensive tackle made his intentions known Tuesday of where he plans to spend his college career choosing the Utes over the likes of Clemson, Oregon, and Michigan.
Coming off of the Pac-12 Championship that stamped their second straight trip to the Rose Bowl, the Utah coaching staff visited with Fano and his family on Monday, making one last push to get his commitment and it apparently worked.

About Spencer Fano
Fano has been a highly coveted recruit out of Timpview High and for good reason. Already standing at 6’5″ and 270 pounds, Fano has the size to be really affective out of the gate in college.
247 Sports has Fano ranked a 4-star recruit. He is considered the No. 2 recruit out of the state of Utah according to the site, the No. 8 offensive tackle in the country, and the No. 57 athlete regardless of position in the country. Basically, he good.
On top of having the measurables and rankings, Fano has been invited to the Army All-American Bowl as well as the Polynesian Bowl.
Offensive Line Coach Jim Harding and Fano
The Utes have always been known for being tough in the trenches both offensively and defensively and Fano fits right into that mentality.
Position coach Jim Harding has been doing a phenomenal job not only recruiting the position as of late but also navigating some tricky waters with career-ending injuries.
In 2016 Harding looked to be on his way consistently building great Utah offensive-lines after finding and helping to develop talents such as Isaac Asiata, JJ Dielman and others into NFL ready linemen. However, Harding’s room, while full of talent got hit with several unexpected career-ending injuries that set the room back for a few years.
In 2021, Harding and the OBlock got back on track with talented guys such as Nick Ford and Bam Olaseni leading the charge. The nastiness and domination continued over to 2022, peaking Fano’s interest and ultimately commitment.
Early Signing Period Approaches
The early signing period is rapidly approaching for football, opening on December 21 and closing on December 23. The “traditional” signing period for the 2023 class will fall on Wednesday, February 1 but has become less dramatic over the years due to most prospects signing in December.
The Utes currently have 17 hard commits counting the addition of Fano on Tuesday evening.
