Southern Utah HC Todd Simon Gets 100th Career Win As Thunderbirds Beat Sacramento State

SALT LAKE CITY – The Southern Utah Thunderbirds leave the North Shore Classic with a 91-87 win in double overtime over Sacramento State on Saturday night.
Four Southern Utah players scored in double figures against Sacramento State, led by Tevian Jones with 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field. Jason Spurgin dropped 20 points and four rebounds. Drake Allen posted 14 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Harrison Bulter added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
As a team, SUU shot 48% from the floor, 26% from the three-point line, and 76% at the free-throw line.
It’s the 100th career win for Todd Simon as the head coach of Southern Utah.

For Sacramento State, Zach Chappell led the way with 23 points and four rebounds. Akol Mawein poured in 17 points. Austin Patterson had 16 points and six rebounds. Hunter Marks chipped in 11 points, while Callum McRae added 10 points and seven rebounds.
The game was filled with fouls as the Hornets had five players foul out. SUU had two players disqualified and two players with four fouls.

SUU Falls To Texas State In First Game Of North Shore Classic on Friday
On Friday night, SUU had a slow start and fell to Texas State 78-65. Tevian Jones led the Thunderbirds with 26 points and five rebounds on 7-of-18 shooting from the field and 3-for-10 from the three-point line. Maizen Fausett was the only other SUU player to reach double figures with 14 points.
Jason Spurgin added nine points and seven rebounds. Harrison Butler chipped in eight points, while both Drake Allen and Cameron Healy each had four points.
SUU shot just 37% from the field, 20% from the three-point line, and 72% at the free-throw line.
With those two games at the North Shore Classic, Southern Utah is now 4-3 on the season with wins over La Verne, Saint Katherine, Bethesda College, and Sacramento State. Their losses came against New Mexico, Kansas, and Texas State.
The Thunderbirds will return to Cedar City and will host Montana State on Wednesday, November 30 at 7 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
