Markkanen Has Career-High 38, Jazz Beat Suns In Shootout

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz beat the Phoenix Suns 134-133 in a shootout in Salt Lake City behind a career-high 38 points from Lauri Markkanen.
Devin Booker added 47 for the Suns but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Jazz at Vivint Arena.
With the win, the Jazz snapped their three-game losing streak and moved to 11-6 on the season.
First Quarter
The Jazz opened the game on an impressive 19-3 run including 15 unanswered points fueled by hot shooting from Mike Conley and Jordan Clarkson.
However, the Suns answered as the Jazz went cold in the second half of the quarter.

The Suns had a 19-4 run of their own to rim the Jazz 19-point lead to just four with a minute left in the quarter.
After one, the Jazz led the Suns 42-35.
Second Quarter
Both teams slowed down the open the second quarter, but the Jazz found their stroke after Kelly Olynyk picked up his third foul midway through the period.
Lauri Markkanen and Malik Beasley scored 18 points apiece to fuel the Jazz.

Devin Booker led all scorers with 23 points in the first half.
At the break, the Jazz led the Suns 74-66.
Third Quarter
The teams came out red-hot in the third quarter combining to knock down 9-10 shots.
The scoring didn’t stop as Booker added 16 more points in the quarter and had 39 total in 30 minutes on the floor.

Markkanen countered with 34 of his own on 13-15 shooting.
After three the Jazz led the Suns 107-105.
Fourth Quarter
The Suns took their first lead of the game 121-120 with 7:21 left in the game.
However, the Jazz answered with big shots from the bench including Simone Fontecchi who connected on a four-point play.

Booker scored 47 points but it wasn’t enough as the Suns fell just short of the win.
