Weber State Stays Winless Away From Home, Drops Game At Colorado State

SALT LAKE CITY – The Weber State men’s basketball team remains winless away from the Dee Events Center this season after falling on the road to the Colorado State Rams.
The Rams hosted the Wildcats at Moby Arena in Fort Collins, Colorado on Monday, November 14.
Weber State fell to Colorado State, 77-52.

The Wildcats lead the Rams by one point, 9-8, with 13:23 remaining in the first half. Weber State’s lead lasted for 1:12 of game time before John Tonje made a layup to give Colorado State a 10-9 lead. The Wildcats failed to regain the lead throughout the final 32:11 of action. Weber State had a dismal performance throughout the rest of the first half.
The Rams continued to build their lead before the break and took a 36-15 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Colorado State maintained its margin on the scoreboard during the second half and the Rams built their lead to 29 points before capturing the 25-point win.
Weber State struggled to score and finished the night shooting 33.9 percent from the field, including only 21.4 percent from three. Colorado State shot 53.7 percent overall and 50.0 percent on three-pointers.
The Wildcats dished out 12 fewer assists than the Rams, stole the ball four fewer times, and committed six more turnovers in the loss.
Dillon Jones led the Wildcats with 20 points on 7-12 shooting, including 2-4 from distance. He also had 14 rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Steven Verplancken Jr. added 11 points, one assist, and a steal.
Colorado State had four players in double-digits in scoring and was led by Tonje’s 15 points.
With the loss, the Wildcats moved to 1-2 this season, including an 0-2 record on the road.

Weber State’s next game is on the road against the UC Riverside Highlanders on Monday, November 21 at 8 p.m. (MDT). The game will be played at Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada. ESPN Analytics currently gives Weber State a 46.3 percent chance at beating the Highlanders. UC Riverside owns a 1-1 record.
