Ashworth Bursts Off Bench, Helps Utah State Beat Bradley

SALT LAKE CITY – Steven Ashworth exploded off the bench and helped the Utah State men’s basketball team to a win over the Bradley Braves.
The Aggies hosted the Braves at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah on Friday, November 11.

Ashworth and the Aggies took control of the contest early in the first half and lead throughout the night. The Braves and Aggies were knotted at 2-2 during the opening minutes of action before Utah State separated itself.
USU exploded for 45 points during the first 20 minutes of action and took a 13-point advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Over the final 20 minutes of game time, the Aggies outscored the Braves by nine points to run away with the double-digit victory. USU’s largest lead of the night was 22 points.
The Aggies ended the game shooting 44.6 percent overall and 45.8 percent from downtown. USU limited Bradley to 34.5 percent shooting, including 34.8 percent on three-pointers. The Aggies also went 23-27 from the free throw line.
Utah State crushed Bradley on the boards with 46 rebounds. The Aggies also recorded five steals and six blocked shots.
USU had four players reach double figures in scoring. Ashworth came off the bench to lead the Aggies with 28 points on 6-11 field goals. He added six assists.

Taylor Funk led Utah State’s scorers with 13 points. Zee Hamoda and Dan Akin added 15 points and 10 points, respectively.
The Braves had two players score in double-digits. Duke Deen led Bradley with 15 points on 5-13 shooting.

With the win, the Aggies improved their record to 2-0 this season, including 2-0 at home. The Aggies opened the season with a victory at home over the Utah Valley Wolverines.
Utah State’s next game is at home against the Santa Clara Broncos on Monday, November 14 at 7 p.m. (MDT). ESPN Analytics currently gives USU a 73.6 percent chance to beat the Broncos.
