The English translation of Oostende’s announcement that they signed Barcello, “We are particularly excited to welcome Alex to Ostende. As an extra player he gives us more options at the point guard position. With the decisive matches in the Champions League but also the continuation of the cup and the BNXT league, we are even better armed.”
Oostende is now armed with one of the top shooters in BYU basketball history. Barcello was dubbed the best shooter in college basketball last season by ESPN’s Jay Bilas. Barcello was 42% and above in all three of his seasons at BYU behind the three-point line. In the 2019-20 season, he shot 48.6% from beyond the arc. During his senior season last year at BYU, he averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists.
The former sharp-shooting guard for BYU is the seventh former Coug that played for current coach Mark Pope that is playing professional ball overseas. He joins Yoeli Childs, TJ Haws, Jake Toolson, Zac Seljaas, Brandon Averette, and Matt Haarms.
Filou Oostende’s next scheduled game is on November 19 against Limburg United.
