PROVO, Utah – The ECU Pirates can now claim a pair of consecutive victories over future Big 12 teams. Let’s say they are enjoying the moment.
BYU, who will join the Big 12 Conference on July 1, 2023, lost to East Carolina on Friday, 27-24. As time expired, ECU kicker Andrew Conrad hit a 33-yard field goal to give the Pirates the victory.

The loss sends BYU to 4-5 overall on the season. It’s a setback that drains any momentum BYU was building before the upcoming move to Power Five football.

East Carolina, who is a member of the American Athletic Conference, responded from their official football Twitter account with a Talledega Nights Cougar car that says, “ME.”
It’s the second time in as many weeks that the Pirates have been able to take a victory lap on a future Big 12 squad. Last week, ECU upset UCF 34-13 at home.
After that victory over current AAC rival UCF, the Pirates posted a graphic that read, “Enjoy the Big L.”

Now they have dealt another “L” to another Big 12 team. And they still have time to complete the entire sweep of the four new members.
On November 11, ECU travels to Cincinnati; then, on November 19, they host the Houston Cougars.
Meanwhile, BYU looks to pick up the pieces on what’s left of their last Independent season when they take on the Boise State Broncos on the blue turf on November 5.
