Olynyk Layup Beats Pelicans, Jazz Move To 3-0

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz played their second straight overtime game, and walked away with their third straight winning owning the New Orleans Pelicans 122-121.
Lauri Markkanen scored 31 points including two clutch free throws, but it was Kelly Olynyk’s layup with three seconds left to play that locked up the win.
The Jazz moved to 3-0 to open the season with the victory.
First Quarter
Jarred Vanderbilt continued to make his presence known after a stellar showing in Minnesota recording three points, two rebounds, two steals, an assist, and a block in the first seven minutes of the game.
Lauri Markkanen carried the Jazz offensively recording 14 first quarter points.

Brandon Ingram had 10 points to lead the Pelicans but left the game after a collision with a team. CJ McCollum added six points for New Orleans.
After one the Jazz led the Pelicans 26-24.
Second Quarter
The Pelicans opened the second quarter on a 9-3 run to retake the lead fueled by Zion Williamson’s transition offense.
Markkanen continued his strong play with 19 points at the half while Vanderbilt poured in a career-high 15 points through two quarters.
Williamson has 12 points and four rebounds.
At the break, the Jazz led New Orleans 63-53.
Third Quarter
Vanderbilt picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter forcing Will Hardy to turn to rookie Walker Kessler for extended minutes.
The rookie center continued to perform well scoring five points, grabbing eight rebounds, and blocking two shots through 36 minutes.

The Jazz had 24 assists on 33 made baskets and led the Pelicans 93-84 through three quarters.
Fourth Quarter
The Jazz lead ballooned to 17 early in the fourth quarter thanks to a 9-1 run.
However, the Pelicans answered with a 20-3 to tie the game with 2:28 left in the game.

The Jazz managed just five points over the final 7:26 of the game and Jordan Clarkson missed a potential game-winning three at the buzzer as the game went to overtime.
Overtime
Clarkson carried the Jazz offensive load in overtime getting to the free throw line and knocking down a deep three.
CJ McCollum did the heavy lifting for New Orleans as the two high-scoring guards went head-to-head.
Markkanen hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to play to give the Jazz a 120-119 lead, but McCollum answered with a tough runner to retake the lead.
Kelly Olynyk hit a layup with three seconds left and McCollum missed a desperation three to give the Jazz a 122-121 win.
