SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz played their second straight overtime game, and walked away with their third straight winning owning the New Orleans Pelicans 122-121.

Lauri Markkanen scored 31 points including two clutch free throws, but it was Kelly Olynyk’s layup with three seconds left to play that locked up the win.

The Jazz moved to 3-0 to open the season with the victory.

First Quarter

Jarred Vanderbilt continued to make his presence known after a stellar showing in Minnesota recording three points, two rebounds, two steals, an assist, and a block in the first seven minutes of the game.

Second Quarter

The Pelicans opened the second quarter on a 9-3 run to retake the lead fueled by Zion Williamson’s transition offense.

Williamson has 12 points and four rebounds.

At the break, the Jazz led New Orleans 63-53.

Third Quarter

The rookie center continued to perform well scoring five points, grabbing eight rebounds, and blocking two shots through 36 minutes.

The Jazz had 24 assists on 33 made baskets and led the Pelicans 93-84 through three quarters.

Fourth Quarter

The Jazz lead ballooned to 17 early in the fourth quarter thanks to a 9-1 run.

However, the Pelicans answered with a 20-3 to tie the game with 2:28 left in the game.

The Jazz managed just five points over the final 7:26 of the game and Jordan Clarkson missed a potential game-winning three at the buzzer as the game went to overtime.

Overtime

Clarkson carried the Jazz offensive load in overtime getting to the free throw line and knocking down a deep three.

CJ McCollum did the heavy lifting for New Orleans as the two high-scoring guards went head-to-head.

Markkanen hit two free throws with 11 seconds left to play to give the Jazz a 120-119 lead, but McCollum answered with a tough runner to retake the lead.

Kelly Olynyk hit a layup with three seconds left and McCollum missed a desperation three to give the Jazz a 122-121 win.
