SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves battled into overtime where clutch shots from Mike Conley and Lauri Markkanen proved to be the difference.

The Jazz erased a 17-point first-half deficit and took a seven point lead in the third quarter but were unable to hold onto the advantage.

Jordan Clarkson led the Jazz with 29 points who moved to 2-0 with a 132-126 victory.

First Quarter

The Timberwolves got off to a fast 13-3 start as the Jazz offense struggled to find a flow against Rudy Gobert and the Minnesota defense.

Lauri Markkanen finally got the Jazz offense on track with back-to-back highlights including a dunk over Gobert and a three-pointer in the corner.

Markkanen led the Jazz with nine points in the first quarter while Anthony Edwards led all scorers with 11.

After one the Jazz trailed Minnesota 41-26.

Second Quarter

The Jazz trailed by as much as 17 in the first half but held the Timberwolves to just 23 points in the second quarter.

Kelly Olynyk scored seven points in the frame, tying Markkanen with 12 points at the break.

Collin Sexton added seven points and three assists off the bench.

At halftime, the Jazz trailed Minnesota 64-55.

Third Quarter

The Jazz opened the second half on a 22-6 run erasing the Timberwolves lead, and eventually building a seven point advantage of their own.

The majority of the Jazz damage was a direct result of the hustle of Jarred Vanderbilt who broke up Minnesota’s offensive gameplan with his length and athleticism.

Vanderbilt had three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in the quarter while Markkanen had 20 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists over the opening 36 minutes.

After three the Jazz led Minnesota 88-87.

Fourth Quarter

Karl Anthony-Towns took over the game offensive for the Timberwolves in the fourth quarter scoring 11 points.

The Jazz spread the Timberwolves defense out with Olynyk and Markkanen on the perimeter and built a seven point lead with just under two minutes left to play.

Jordan Clarkson also found his stroke in the second half scoring 20 points in the third and fourth quarters.

Olynyk fouled out with 22 seconds left to play after getting tangled up with Towns on a rebound. On the ensuing play, the Timberwolves tied the game up on a D’Angelo Russell bank shot.

Markkanen missed a potential game-winner at the buzzer as the game went to overtime.

Overtime

The two teams exchanged baskets throughout overtime, but a Mike Conley three with 1:01 left to play gave the Jazz a 128-126 lead.

Gobert missed two clutch free throws that would have tied the game.

Markkanen iced the game with a mid-range jump shot and the Jazz beat the Timberwolves 132-126 in overtime.
