PROVO, Utah – BYU basketball coach Mark Pope is never afraid to entertain.
The always energetic Pope, who enters his fourth year guiding the BYU hoops program, had some fun during Midnight Madness on Friday.
After the Men’s Basketball team took the court, being introduced by class, starting with freshmen and working their way up to seniors Rudi Williams and Gideon George. Pope took the microphone.

Next thing we knew, the Marriott Center became the underdog ground stage in the movie 8 Mile, as Mark Pope laid down his version of “Lose Yourself.”
There’s so much to unpack in this video. No one can question Pope’s ability to get a crowd entertained. The questions can be asked about how entertaining Pope’s fourth BYU team will be with so many new faces. But the former National Champion and NBA player always has a knack for having a good time.
BYU’s 2022-23 season opens up on Monday, November 7, at home against Idaho State from the Big Sky Conference. Last year, BYU finished 24-11 overall and a third-round exit in the NIT. WCC coaches picked BYU to finish third in the West Coast Conference this season before they leave the league for the Big 12 in 2023-24.
