SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Football has announced that the upcoming game against USC will be the annual Dark Mode game of 2022.
Dark Mode suggests that the Utes will wear an all-black uniform. The University is asking fans in attendance to wear black. Every year around Halloween the University of Utah relishes the spooky season with a black-out game.
Following last week’s loss to UCLA at the Rose Bowl, Utah fell in the AP rankings from 11 to 20. While USC enters the blockbuster Pac-12 encounter ranked as the 7th best team in the country, according to the AP rankings.

Utah now finds itself 4-2 on the year, with losses occurring to Florida and UCLA. It is no secret that the upcoming game against USC will likely have large implications for the remainder of the year for Utah.
It goes without saying, but two divisional losses to both Los Angeles-based teams would make for an incredibly difficult challenge to overcome for Utah who is looking to cement a spot in the Championship game for the fourth time in the last five years.
USC is enjoying its first season under head coach Lincoln Riley and is currently undefeated through its first six games. However, the game against Utah will mark the first time this season that USC plays a ranked opponent. Previously, all six of their games have come against unranked teams.
For Utah, the game against USC will mark the second consecutive AP top 20 battle for the Utes following its game against number 18-ranked UCLA.
The game against USC marks the eighth matchup between both teams in Salt Lake City. Utah holds a 4-3 advantage against USC at Rice Eccles Stadium.
