Box Elder Spoils Senior Night For Bonneville With Blowout Win

WASHINGTON TERRACE, Utah – The Box Elder Bees scored 37 unanswered points to blow out the Bonneville Lakers on Game Night Live.
The Lakers hosted the Bees at Bonneville High School on Friday, October 7.

On the first play of the night, the Lakers moved into the red zone thanks for a 64-yard highlight reel worthy play.
33 seconds into the game, Bonneville found the end zone on a Jaxon Johnson for the first points of the contest.
The Lakers fooled the Bees with a fake field goal trick play for a two-point conversion and an 8-0 lead.

The Lakers’ lead held for the remainder of the opening quarter.
With 7:40 left in the first half, Daxton Sumko battled his way across the goal line for Box Elders’ first points. Rather than attempt a two-point conversion to try and tie the game, the Bees kicked a PAT to make it 8-7 Bonneville.

Following a couple of shots to the end zone later in the quarter, Bonneville tried another deep ball. However, it was attempt too many and the Bees’ Cole Mortensen picked off the pass.

Box Elder marched down the field and into the red zone. After a couple of mistakes moved the Bees back from the goal line, Mortensen made his second big play of the quarter. Mortensen ran towards the far pylon before reaching the ball out for six points. The touchdown lifted the Bees in front of the Lakers on the scoreboard. Box Elder took a 14-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.

A little over three minutes into the second half, Bees quarterback Ryan Griffin hit Mason Jeppsen, who caught the ball and took it into the end zone for another Box Elder touchdown. The Griffin-Jeppsen connection gave Box Elder a 20-8 lead after a failed two-point attempt.

The Bees added another three points to their total with a field goal near the end of the third quarter.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Sumko broke loose for his second touchdown run of the game and the rout was on as Box Elder took a 30-8 lead.

On the following drive by Bonneville, the Bees picked off a pass in Laker territory. On the next play, Griffin hit Jackson McKee for a Box Elder touchdown and a 38-7 advantage.

Bonneville’s night continued as the Bees intercepted another Lakers’ pass on the following possession.

With the result, the Bees improved to a 6-3 record and the Lakers fell to 6-3 this season.
The game was Bonneville’s regular season finale. Box Elder wraps up its regular season schedule at home against the Ridgeline Riverhawks on October 12 at 7 p.m. (MDT).
