BYU Football Will Return Visit To Wyoming In 2024
PROVO, Utah – The 2022 BYU/Wyoming meeting won’t be the last time the BYU football program faces the Cowboys.
BYU has a home-and-home with Wyoming that includes a 2024 game in Laramie. Athletic Director Tom Holmoe said in the pregame of the BYU/Wyoming game that the 2024 meeting between the two programs would be played.
Tom Holmoe said BYU football is going to Laramie in 2024
“Yes, we are. It’s a good game,” Holmoe said on the BYU Sports Network when asked if BYU would return the trip to Laramie. “I like the interregional rivalry, old conference foes, and it’s just a game that I think we should be playing.”
BYU originally had the trip to Laramie scheduled for September 28, 2024. However, after BYU was officially invited to the Big 12 Conference, the date with the Pokes moved up by two weeks and was bumped up to September 14, 2024, proving that BYU wanted to keep the game. Holmoe confirmed as much.
It will be BYU’s first visit to War Memorial Stadium since the 2009 season, a game that BYU won 55-7.
Outside of Utah and Utah State, BYU has the most meetings against Wyoming. The two schools have squared off against each other 79 total times.
Early look at the 2024 Non-Conference schedule
BYU currently has games on the 2024 schedule with Wyoming, Utah, East Carolina, Utah Tech, and Nevada. The Big 12 Conference will continue to play a nine-game conference schedule in the 12-team iteration of the league. And they also require at least one Power Five opponent in the non-conference scheduling. Utah would fill that requirement.
BYU and Wyoming scheduled this home-and-home series in 2018, two years after the 2016 Poinsettia Bowl. Initially, when BYU left the Mountain West Conference for FBS Independence, Wyoming AD Tom Burman swore he would never play BYU again. However, time heals all wounds as the Pokes and Cougars renewed their old conference rivalry.
