SALT LAKE CITY – Philadelphia Eagles punt returner and former Utah Utes star Britain Covey told the story of having to park in the tailgate lot on Monday night.
Covey was denied access to the players’ parking lot so he had to go to the tailgate lot and walk through the crowd before the Eagles’ Monday Night Football game against the Minnesota Vikings.
“To no fault of theirs,” Covey said. “I had the practice squad pass. My teammates told me to tell them that I was elevated to the active roster and they would let me in. But I could tell that they (parking attendants) didn’t quite recognize me when I told them I was elevated. They said ‘look you don’t have the pass for this.’ I totally get where they are coming from. I have to prove myself in Philly before I deserve to be there.”

Covey had to park in the tailgate lot but he enjoyed his experience with the fans.
“I liked it, I had to park with the grinders, about half a mile away with the tailgaters,” Covey mentioned. “I thought it was a blast. It’s kind of like college. A few of them (fans) were confused and I had to ask them where to go. It was kind of inspiring to walk through the crowd and see how much people love football here. I want to be a great player here. I didn’t play my best on Monday so I am going to have to walk through that crowd again to get even more determined.”
The Eagles faced the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football in their home opener when Britain Covey wasn’t allowed to park in the players’ lot before the game.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer and 94.1 WIP, Covey was trying to park in the players’ lot when the parking attendants wouldn’t allow the former Ute in because they didn’t believe he was a player.
“According to Howard Eskin of 94.1 WIP, Eagles punt returner Britain Covey, who was elevated from the practice squad on Monday afternoon, tried to park his car in the players’ lot before the game, but the attendants didn’t believe he was a player and wouldn’t let him park,” Philadelphia Inquirer writer Mike Sielski wrote. “Covey ended up parking elsewhere among several tailgaters. They apparently didn’t recognize him, either.”
SB Nation host Josh Reynolds tweeted out the bit from the Inquirer and was asking to get a confirmation from Covey.
Going to need my guy @brit_covey2 to confirm or deny this after the game lol

After signing with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent, Covey made a splash during training camp but didn’t make the 53-man roster. He was signed to the practice squad and has been called up to the active roster in each of the last two games.
Covey returned three punts for 14 yards on Monday Night Football, with his longest return going for eight yards. In the Eagles’ season-opening win over the Lions, Covey returned two punts for 13 yards. His longest return went for 11 yards.
The Eagles are 2-0 on the season and will be on the road to face NFC East division rival Washington Commanders on Sunday, September 25 at 11:00 a.m. MT on FOX.
