SALT LAKE CITY – This time last year the University of Utah football team was struggling with a loss to BYU and on the verge of walking into Carson, California, to face a San Diego State team that would end up a heartbreaking triple-overtime loss.
The Utah team and season would drastically change after that game with Cam Rising coming in late and nearly pulling off the win. The rest is history as the Utes would go on to win the Pac-12 and go to the Rose Bowl.
This time around Utah gets the Aztecs at home and are considered a heavy favorite against this San Diego State team that, at the moment, does not look to be as good as last year after suffering a loss to Arizona in the season opener.
Ute defensive lineman Devin Kaufusi joins Unrivaled every week and told the guys that this is 100% a revenge game for Utah.
“Triple overtime! We owe these guys. [It’s] a revenge game for sure,” Kaufusi said. “We get them at home this year. It is nice playing a team we played last year. They have some good running backs and a nifty quarterback.
In what one might call a bit of a "revenge" game this Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium, @crising7 and @_DaltonKincaid are looking forward to taking on San Diego State. #GoUtes #UteProud https://t.co/U1tDIdhnqf

“There are big chunks [of improvement] between Week 1 and Week 2 to find their identity and groove. Taking this SUU week as a stepping stone into San Diego State to look sharper and hone in our technique so we can have a similar performance this week.”
There are plenty of guys on the team who want to get back at San Diego State. Rising and Thomas are two guys that stand out. The former came in late to replace Charlier Brewer and nearly led a comeback win vs. the Aztecs, and Thomas was not yet the guy as he mostly watched from the sidelines with one carry for zero rushing yards.
Expect Utah to come out swinging to prove last year was a fluke. The players and coaching staff have highlighted this game on the schedule and they want payback against San Diego State this Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
