Weber State Pick-Six Gives Wildcats Commanding Lead In Logan

LOGAN, UT – Weber State safety Desmond Williams returned Logan Bonner’s third INT of the day to the endzone, giving WSU a 28-7 third quarter lead.
The Aggies (1-1) are hosting Weber State (1-0) at Maverik Stadium in Logan, UT on Saturday, September 10.

Utah State quarterback Bonner never saw the safety breaking as he delivered the pass in the middle of the field. Williams stepped in front of the pass and returned it untouched for Weber State’s second touchdown of the quarter.
The FCS Wildcats have dominated the FBS Aggies on the road.
Through three quarters, Weber State has out gained USU 360 yards to 178 yards.
Weber State leads 28-7 heading into the fourth quarter of play.
Utah State Aggies (1-1)
Quarterback Logan Bonner is 23-for-38 for 320 yards and three scores this season.
Brian Cobbs, a wide receiver transfer from Maryland, leads Utah State with 10 catches for 141 yards and a touchdown. Justin McGriff and Kyle Van Leeuwen have also found the end zone this season.
Out of the backfield, Calvin Tyler Jr. has been the bell-cow back with 177 yards on 45 carries. Freshman Robert Briggs has added 113 yards on 20 carries with a touchdown against UConn.
Redshirt-freshman cornerback Ike Larsen has been a revelation for the Aggies as he has two interceptions and a blocked punt this season.

FCS No. 16 Weber State Wildcats (1-0)
The Wildcats opened their 2022 campaign with a decisive 41-5 win over Western Oregon.
WSU totaled 342 yards of offense while limiting Western Oregon to just 95 yards of offense. Western Oregon’s minus 34-yards rushing set a Weber State program record for the fewest rushing yards allowed in a single game.

Sophomore quarterback Bronson Barron finished with 152 yards and no touchdowns through the air on 16-for-28 passing.
The Wildcats focused on the rushing attack as five players finished with more than 20 yards on the ground. Josh Davis led the WSU attack with 56 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
Weber State is led by Jay Hill in his ninth season with the program. Hill is WSU’s all-time winningest coach with 58 career wins.
Series History
This is the 16th matchup between the two programs separated by about 60 minutes of driving. Utah State has controlled the series, winning 14 of the first 15 games played between the two. USU is 9-1 against the Wildcats at home and have won the last eight games of the series dating back to 1978. The Wildcats only win against USU came in 1978 in a 44-25 victory in Logan.
