The four-star edge rusher/linebacker by 247Sports announced on Saturday night that he is committed to BYU. He did it while he was on the field at LaVell Edwards Stadium in the pregame warmups of BYU versus Baylor.
Esera picked BYU over offers from UCLA, Arizona, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee, USC, Utah, and others.
A 6-foot-3, 240-pound prospect, Esera committed to BYU on his father Peter’s birthday. Peter Esera is the Director of Operations for Brigham Young University. He helps book all of the travel for BYU football road games.

Esera has been a prospect on BYU’s radar for a long time. His first collegiate offer came from BYU in 2019, before his freshman season of high school football.
Esera is the 14th commitment in BYU’s 2023 recruiting class. After the pledge from tight end Jackson Bowers, Esera is the second-highest rated recruit according to the 247Sports Composite ratings.
So far this season at Timpview, Esera has piled up 21 tackles for the T-Birds, who are currently 4-1 overall.
Players off the edge and in the trenches are a top priority for BYU in their recruiting classes in the future as they enter the Big 12 Conference. Esera fills a pressing need.
