Burton, Deede Connect For Three TDs, Help Springville Beat Rival Spanish Fork

SPANISH FORK, Utah – Ryder Burton and Walker Deede connected for three touchdowns to help the Springville Red Devils to a road victory over the rival, the Spanish Fork Dons.
The Dons hosted the Red Devils on Friday, September 9.
Springville defeated Spanish Fork, 35-21.
The Red Devils capture a rivalry win over the Dons.

On the opening drive of the night, the Dons marched down the field with an old school ground attack. Spanish Fork’s possession was cut short after Springville’s Hunter Perrero picked off Zac Dart with 4:25 remaining in the first quarter.
With 2:52 to go in the quarter, the Dons got the back back after forcing and recovering a fumble near the red zone by Tua Valeti of the Red Devils. A few plays later, Josh Buck burst toward the far corner of the end zone and across the goal line for the first points of the game and a 7-0 lead for the Dons.

At the start of the second quarter, the Red Devils found the first big play of the evening. At the 9:50 mark, Burton hit Deede, who took the ball 80 yards to the house and the game was tied at 7-7.

Springville and Spanish Fork traded punts on the next three possessions. With four minutes left in the first half, the Red Devils had great field possession before turning the ball over on downs after failing to convert on 4th & 1.
Following another Dons punt, Spanish Fork had the Red Devils facing a 4th & 8 with less than a minute before the break before Burton connected with Deede, again. The duo combined for another big play that resulted in a Springville touchdown and a 14-7 halftime lead.

Springville had possession to start the second half. However, Spanish Fork forced a punt on the drive. The Red Devils returned the favor on the subsequent possession.
The Red Devils took advantage of their next drive. Near midfield, Burton threw a deep pass to Luke Nadauld. The play set up Springville inside the red zone. With 3:43, Valeti found bounced through a hole and into the end zone for a 21-7 Springville lead.

In the opening minutes of the final quarter, the Dons converted a 4th & 15 to keep a drive alive while moving the ball inside the red zone. On the next play, Dart dashed to the pylon for six points. After an extra point, the Dons were only trailing by seven points, 21-14.

With 9:40 remaining, the Red Devils coughed up the pigskin and the Dons recovered and advanced it to Springville’s 28-yard line. Dart threw a touchdown pass on the following play and the game was knotted up at 21 apiece.

Less than three minutes later, Valeti broke loss for a 64-yard trip to the end zone and the Red Devils regained the lead, 28-21.

During Spanish Fork’s next possession, Dons running back Josh Buck was ejected from the contest after receiving a personal foul for kicking. A few plays later, the Dons were backed up against their own end zone and were forced to punt. Following a poor punt, the Red Devils were back in business were great field position. Burton and Deede went to work and connected for their third touchdowns of the night to make it 35-21 Springville.

With 1:55 left to play and the chance of a comeback slipping away, the Dons failed to convert on fourth down and turned the ball over to the Red Devils.
With the result, the Dons fell to a 2-2 record this season and the Red Devils improved to 4-1.
Spanish Fork’s next game is on the road against the Salem Hills Skyhawks on Friday, September 16 at 7 p.m. (MDT). Springville’s next contest is at home against the Provo Bulldogs on Thursday, September 15 at 7 p.m. (MDT).
