SALT LAKE CITY – Real Salt Lake looks to maintain its position in the Major League Soccer standings as a future playoff team by picking up a home win against D.C. United and former RSL goalkeeper David Ochoa.
RSL is slated to host D.C. United at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday, September 10.
After multiple seasons in Utah, Real Salt Lake traded Ochoa to D.C. in July. The goalie hadn’t played for RSL in 2022. He was previously the club’s starting keeper before the season began. Ochoa has appeared in four matches for D.C. United since the trade.
Ochoa and his Eastern Conference club will fly from the nation’s capital to Utah with the the worst record in MLS to date this season. D.C. United has earned a league-low 26 points in 29 games played. In those matches, the team has only picked up seven wins and five draws. D.C. United has lost 17 of its contests in 2022.
After earning five points in its last three matches of August, Real Salt Lake will eye a bounce back result on Saturday after dropping the team’s first match of September. On September 4, RSL was unable to handle the skill of LAFC in a 2-0 loss in California.
Coming in to the matchup with D.C. United, RSL’s attack appears to have a favorable Saturday on the horizon. D.C. United has a minus-27 goal differential this season compared to RSL’s even standing.

D.C. has only earned a full three points in a match once since the end of July. This season, RSL has played 29 matches and earned 42 points. The team currently sits in sixth place in the Western Conference. The top seven clubs in each conference qualify for the postseason, including an automatic berth into the semifinals for the top seeds. RSL owns a record of 11 wins, nine draws, and nine losses.
The last time Real Salt Lake played against D.C. was in March 2019. D.C. United hosted RSL at Audi Field and won 5-0.
