Sights & Sounds From BYU’s Blowout Win Over USF

TAMPA, FL. – No. 25 BYU football had a memorable opening to the 2022 season. The Cougars rolled through USF notching a dominating 50-21 victory.
It was a game that probably wasn’t as close as the final score would suggest, and that final score is pretty lopsided.

KSL Sports was on location to cover BYU’s season opener against the Bulls.
BYU Insider Mitch Harper was at Raymond James Stadium, along with KSL 5 TV photographer Jackson Grimm. Both captured video and content from BYU’s blowout victory against the Bulls.

BYU compiled 575 yards of offense and jumped out to a 38-0 lead on the Bulls before they could even blink.
Wide receiver Puka Nacua was a star of the game for BYU. The former Orem High standout scored two touchdowns in the game, including a 75-yard rushing touchdown on the game’s opening play.

BYU quarterback Jaren Hall passed for 261 yards and had two touchdowns. The second-year starting signal-caller did have one interception in the game.
Cal grad transfer Chris Brooks had an impressive debut rushing for 135 yards. One of his runs included a 52-yard touchdown in his first game as a BYU Cougar.
Walk-on defensive back Jacob Boren led BYU in tackles with six and he had the Cougs’ lone sack of the night on USF QB Gerry Bohanon.
Linebacker Max Tooley came away with BYU’s defensive play of the game, picking off Bohanon and he took it back for a pick-six.
BYU improves to 1-0 on the season. They will now turn their attention to the Baylor Bears on Saturday, September 10, in Provo.
