Social Media Explodes After Jazz Trade Donovan Mitchell To Cavs

SALT LAKE CITY – Basketball fans and NBA players posted on social media with their reactions after the Utah Jazz sent three-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The blockbuster Mitchell trade was first reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and took place on Thursday, September 1, less than a month before the start of training camp and a couple of days after the New York Knicks, a previously expected landing spot for the former Jazzman, signed forward RJ Barrett to an extension worth more than $100 million.

Mitchell became the second All-Star traded by the Jazz this season. In early July, Utah sent Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for a massive haul of picks and players.

My understanding was the Cavaliers had made a compelling offer for Donovan Mitchell and the @utahjazz had initially rejected the deal.

Have to imagine they had their sights set on RJ Barrett and when that fell through they reengaged with the Cavaliers.

This is a good trade for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Donovan Mitchell is immediately their best player, but the young core of Garland, Allen, and Mobley is very impressive.

Only question is how long Mitchell will be happy in Cleveland.

This offer was extended to the Jazz a month ago and the Jazz turned it down.

Both sides walked away, but when NY dug in its heals, the Jazz realized this was the best offer.
