OGDEN, Utah – Weber State head football coach Jay Hill is entering his ninth season at the helm and he is enjoying every minute coaching the 2022 Wildcats.
Hill has turned around the Weber State program and coached many great teams in Ogden which shows how impressive his statement is of the 2022 Wildcats.
“This team is one of the most enjoyable teams I have ever had as a coach,” Hill said. “They listen, they go hard, try to get better every day. This has been a fun team.”
The Weber State all-time winningest coach will look to get the 2022 season off on the right foot when the Wildcats welcome Western Oregon to Stewart Stadium on Thursday, September 1.

Weber State Facing Western Oregon To Open 2022 Season
The Wildcats enter the season ranked 20th in the nation in both the Stats Perform and AFCA Coaches preseason polls. It’s the sixth straight season that Weber State has been ranked in a national preseason poll. They are one of six Big Sky teams ranked entering the 2022 campaign.
Weber State was picked to finish fourth in the Big Sky preseason media and coaches poll, listed behind Montana, Montana State and Sacramento State. Last season wasn’t up to Weber State standards after the Wildcats ended the season with a 6-5 overall record and finished fifth in conference play with a 5-3 record. For the first time in six years, Weber State missed the FCS Playoffs.
The depth chart was released on Monday and sophomore Bronson Barron will return as the starting quarterback. Josh Davis is entering his senior season and is looking to have a big season at running back. Ty MacPherson is the top wide receiver returning for the Wildcats. Their offensive line has a All-Big Sky performer Noah Atagi at left tackle.
On defense, Doug Schiess will anchor the defensive line. Desmond Williams and Eddie Heckard are the defensive backs to watch this season.
Weber State’s game will kick off at 6:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and 103.1 FM “The Wave.”
