SALT LAKE CITY – After being cut by the New York Jets on Tuesday, the Arizona Cardinals claimed former Utah Utes DB Javelin Guidry off of waivers.
Javelin Guidry didn’t make the Jets’ 53-man roster for the 2022-23 season but was claimed by the Cardinals on Wednesday.
“We needed depth,” coach Kliff Kingsbury said. “I’ll take a look at the guy. I’m excited to have more bodies in there and see where we can use them.”
The #AZCardinals also release Christian Matthew for Guidry waiver claim (Matthew should take one of those 5 PS spots), and retain TE Bernhard Seikovits with international exemption.https://t.co/Fa6hLWlwqq

In order to make room for Guidry on the roster, the Cardinals released rookie cornerback Christian Matthew, a seventh-round draft pick. Guidry joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and has five career starts over 28 games played. He recorded three pass breakups, four forced fumbles and 70 tackles.
The Murrieta, California native started his college career 2017 where he played in all 13 games and started in four games at nickel. He had a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown against Arizona.
Guidry’s sophomore season in 2018 saw him play in 14 games with 9 starts. He racked up 42 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 9 pass breakups, 10 passes defended and one interception. Guidry was named Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
In 2019 as a junior, Guidry played in all 14 games and started in 12 contests at nickelback. He had 48 tackles and 6 pass breakups which led to another Pac-12 Honorable Mention.
After his junior season in 2019, Guidry decided to skip his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.
