PROVO, Utah – One of the best things that emerged with BYU football amidst the COVID-19 pandemic was the love of the equipment truck.
BYU has always had an equipment truck, as any FBS team does. In its less popular days, the equipment truck featured a truck wrap with former wide receiver Mike Rigell diving out for a touchdown. That was the best wrap the BYU truck has had.

But that truck didn’t have the popularity the equipment truck has today. After the impromptu drive to Coastal Carolina in 2020 without knowing the Chanticleers were officially on the schedule, the BYU Equipment Truck has taken on a life of its own within BYU football fandom.
Two years later, the truck tracker is still rolling. BYU Equipment truck drivers Hal Morrell and Fili Taufa left the Student Athlete Building to take off for another cross-country trip. This time it’s for No. 25 BYU taking on the USF Bulls in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday (2 p.m., ESPNU & KSL NewsRadio).

New BYU Director of Equipment Josh Hewitt tweeted out a video of the two truck drivers leaving the team facility as they begin the 2,346-mile trek to Raymond James Stadium.

To highlight the popularity of the BYU equipment truck since that memorable trip to Conway, South Carolina, two years ago, the BYU Store is now selling replica BYU equipment trucks for fans to purchase.

Hal and Fili will be racking up a lot of miles this season. Along with the Tampa trip, they will also go to the Pacific Northwest to Eugene, Oregon, home of the Oregon Ducks. Then they will go to Las Vegas for a clash with Notre Dame at Allegiant Stadium. Other trips include Boise, Idaho, for one last visit to the blue turf against Boise State, the Bay Area to face Stanford on Thanksgiving weekend, and another cross-country trip to Lynchburg, Virginia, for a unique visit to the Liberty Flames in October.
